Housing-Enabling Water System Fund Connecting Erin to a Future of Possibilities

The Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund is a funding initiative designed to support municipalities in building/upgrading water and wastewater systems that support housing development.

The Town of Erin has received exciting news! As part of a $325 million provincial investment in water infrastructure, Erin will receive up to $29.4 million through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF).

This funding will support a major infrastructure project in Erin Village. The project will bring new sanitary sewer services and upgrade existing water and stormwater systems, helping provide residents with reliable, modern services.

For many homes and businesses, this means moving away from private septic and holding tank systems to a more dependable municipal wastewater system.

The project is expected to include:

  • Replacing older watermains and service connections
  • Upgrading stormwater systems
  • Building a new sanitary sewer system
  • Rehabilitating roads and improving sidewalks and pedestrian connections

These improvements will help protect the environment, support public health, and make local infrastructure safer and more reliable. The upgrades will also help the Town plan for future growth and new housing.

The project is currently in the early planning stages. A study is underway to determine which areas can be serviced, and more details will be shared at a public information centre as design work continues. Construction is expected to begin in 2027.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $40.3 million, with the remaining $10.9 million funded by the Town and developer contributions.
